What is a Memory Keepsakes?

A memory keepsake is a hand crafted item that encases a memory of a loved one. By sending in fresh flowers, dried flowers, hair, and fabric fibers we are able to preserve them into resin and molded into a charm, necklace, rosary, and other types of jewelry.

How many flowers are needed to make the keepsakes?

Rule of thumb, one flower per item. However, some items we require more and for some items we may need less. It is always best to send the entire flower. Please note that smaller flowers with small petals will be the exception to the rule of thumb. Please email us for further details.

What flowers can be used?

Many types of flowers can be used, however, roses are the best.  There are a few types of flowers that do not work well for our process including Lilies and Cymbidium Orchids, and most Exotic flowers do not work well for our process.

How long does it take to complete my order?

Orders typically take about 4-8 weeks. It is a labor of intensive process without any machines. Due to the process larger orders may take longer than 8 weeks, a confirmation email will state as such.

It is important to note that we cannot rush orders.  

Do I need to ship the flowers right away and in any special way?

The sooner we receive your flowers the better. Place your flowers in a box. Do not use any plastic, paper towels as this can cause rapid browning to your flowers while they are being shipped to us. Cut the stems of the flowers, we only need the whole flower head. Place your flowers in the box. Just let flowers be free in the box. Do not use envelopes to ship. US Post Office is the cheapest method. If possible with fresh flower overnight your them to us or at least 2 day priority.

What will my flowers look like after they dry?

When flowers dry some of the colors may change. This is especially the case for red roses, they dry to a very dark Burgundy color. Pink Roses can dry to a more purple color (but not all, some stay pink). White roses can dry to a yellow color or tan type color. We have even seen white roses turn to a green or pink color. Hometown Originals is not responsible for color changes as it is a natural process to preparing them.

How do I care for keepsakes once I receive them?

While your keepsake is protected by polished resin it is safe, however, there may be bubbles in the resin that would expose the flower, we ask that you take off the jewelry when you are showering, bathing, swimming, doing the dishes etc.

Do you offer discounts for large orders?

We are unable to offer discounts due to the process being labor intensive. Each item is made by hand with a significant amount of hand work.

Will I get my flowers back after?

No. We are unable to send flowers back as we break the flower down to petals. These petals are then taken apart to create your keepsake.
